Baseball rallies in ninth for 11-5 win

ELSAH, Ill. -- The baseball team tied the game in the top of the ninth and went on to add a total of seven runs in the final frame as they won 11-5 at Principia on Friday night. Trevor Montgomery went 3-for-5 for Greenville with a home run, two runs scored, and four RBI.

Greenville took the early lead, posting two runs in the top of the first when Montgomery had an RBI single and Travis Ralls hit a sacrifice fly.

Principia gained the lead in the bottom of the first with three runs off Panther starter Cole Becker.

Montgomery tied the game for the Panthers in the top of the second by hitting into a fielder's choice that gave Greenville a run, but Principia came right back with two runs their half of the second to regain a 5-3 advantage.

Ralls pulled Greenville a run closer with a solo home run in the top of the third, and the game remaining 5-4 in Principia's advantage heading into the final frame.

In Greenville's half of the ninth, the Panthers took the lead when Nate Miller's single and error by the pitcher allowed Mike Hardin and Jesse Getz to score the tying and go-ahead runs.

Montgomery padded the Panthers the lead with a two run home run. They added runs after Adam Lamb singled and an error by the pitcher gave Shane Olmsted the ability to score. Getz added insurance runs with two-run single.

C.J. Opp picked up the win with 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for starter Becker. Opp allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out two.

Collingwood closed the game with a perfect ninth.

The Panthers (7-13, 2-2 SLIAC) face Westminster on Saturday in Greenville.
