Baseball splits with MacMurray

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The baseball team split two games with MacMurray on Saturday as they lost the first game 8-1 and won the second game of the twinbill 5-2.

Greenville fell behind in game one as MacMurray got a single run in the second and four runs in the top of the fourth. Greenville got their only run of the game in the fourth inning when Ryan Smith doubled, and Dalton McFarland came up with an RBI single.

MacMurray capped the game's scoring with a three-run top of the sixth.

C.J. Opp was the losing pitcher as he allowed five runs on nine hits in 3.1 innings. He gave way to Phillip Reedy who allowed three runs on four hits. Devin Mayfield closed the game with 1.2 innings of perfect relief.

McFarland was 2-for-2 with the RBI.

In the second game, Greenville scored first when Travis Ralls crossed home after a wild pitch in the bottom of the second.

MacMurray took the lead 2-1 in the top of the fourth.

Greenville got four runs in the bottom of the fifth when Max Gabriel scored on an error by the pitcher, Ryan Smith came up with an RBI single, and Ralls hit a two-run homer.

Ryan Strohm (1-2) was the winning pitcher as he allowed two runs, one earned on four hits and piled up 10 strikeouts.

Nathan Garbe, Michael Wittmer, and Nick Bifano closed the final 2.2 innings without allowing a hit. The save was Bifano's second.

The Panthers (7-11, 5-2 SLIAC) travel to Spalding for a game Monday afternoon.
