Baseball Stumbles Against Spalding 12-2

Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill. The Panthers saw their conference record fall to 16-6 on Friday, as the Golden Eagles of Spalding University handed the club their first loss in ten games. SU tattooed the Black & Orange with 16 hits in the seven-inning battle, scoring 12 runs and handing Greenville the home loss.

GCs David Massengill (5-2) was charged the loss, pitching five innings while giving up nine earned on ten hits and receiving little Panther run support in the 12-2 defeat.

Spaldings Taylor Reilly (4-0) held the Greenville bats in check for most of the game, earning the win while tossing six innings with only two earned on seven hits and notching six strikeouts.

Despite the slow day offensively, senior slugger Daniel Covert continued to bat effectively for the Panthers, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

The club will again host Spalding tomorrow at Robert E. Smith Field as they celebrate GC Baseballs Senior Day. The scheduled double-header will round out the seasons three-game set.
