Baseball takes both versus Blackburn

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The baseball team defeated Blackburn 6-4 and 6-2 in both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader. Between games, the Panthers honored seniors Tyler Whitworth, Zach Thompson, Dalton McFarland, Ryan Smith, Jared Storment, Tyler Pilcher, and Michael Wittmer for their service to the Panther baseball program.

The Panthers trailed 1-0 after the first inning of game one and scored three in the second to take the lead. Blackburn tied the game with two runs in the third and added a run in the fifth. Greenville tied the game with a tally in the bottom of the sixth, and Trevor Montgomery hit a game-winning two run home run in the the bottom of the seventh.

Pilcher started the game on the mound for Greenville and went six innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on five hits. Wittmer pitched a perfect seventh inning in relief and gained his second win in three decisions.

McFarland went 1-for-3 for Greenville, knocking in three runs, and scoring a run himself.

Storment was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Game two saw Greenville gain a 3-2 advantage in the bottom of the fifth and tack on three insurance runs in the eighth as they won 6-2.

Five Panthers posted two hits, including Tim Osborne, Montgomery, Travis Ralls, Josh Wheeler, and Dathan Berning. Osborne, Montgomery, and Ralls each had two RBI.

Winning pitcher Jason Collingwood (1-1) entered in relief to pitch two scoreless innings as he succeeded starter Phillip Reedy. Reedy went four innings, only allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits. Nick Bifano closed the game on the mound with two scoreless innings for his fifth save.

The Panthers (17-16, 15-5 SLIAC) travel to Westminster on Friday.
