GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The baseball team scored nine runs over the first two innings, and it was enough as the Panthers defeated Webster 10-6 on Friday. With the win, the Panthers advanced to the SLIAC championship game on Saturday. This is the first time that Greenville has ever won it's first two conference tournament games and will mark their sixth appearance in the championship in 10 years.

The Panthers, who were the visiting team on the scoreboard, got a six inning quality start from freshman Jordan Yakel, who came back after a rain delay of nearly six hours to pitch through the sixth inning.

Greenville opened the first inning with a run when Jared Storment delivered an RBI double.

The Panthers knocked Webster's starting pitcher out of the game in the second inning and forced Webster to bring in two relievers during the inning.

The hero of Thursday's win Josh Wheeler singled to plate Dalton McFarland with the game's second run. Tim Osborne then posted an RBI single and a second run scored on an error by the leftfielder.

Storment and McFarland later came up with two run singles, and McFarland's hit resulted in a third run as the centerfielder made an error.

Webster chipped away with single runs in the second, third, and sixth innings before putting three on the board in the bottom of the ninth.

McFarland was 4-for-5 in the game with two runs scored and two RBI.

Storment went 2-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI.

Wheeler gave Greenville a 2-for-4 day with one run scored and two RBI.

Nick Bifano closed the game on the mound after entering with the bases loaded in the ninth. He walked in the third run of the inning and finished the game with a strikeout.

Greenville's record improved to 21-18.
