Enrich Your Prayer Life: A Seven-Minute Lesson in Praying the Psalms

Published: April 13, 2021

Seedbed, the publishing arm of Asbury Theological Seminary, has published a video lesson on praying the psalms from Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Theology Benjamin Wayman.

What the Psalms Teach Us About Prayer is part of Seedbeds Seven Minute Seminary series. The series provides theological and practical teachings for reflection and application in the everyday world.

Up until the 20th century, Christians learned how to develop a mature prayer language from praying the psalms. In this video, Wayman enlists the help of Eugene Peterson and St. Athanasius, the fourth-century bishop of Alexandria, to recover that ancient practice.

Wayman raises the question, Jesus prayed the Psalms, why shouldnt we?

Seedbed taps top scholars and practitioners to deliver brief insights through its Seven Minute Seminary lessons. Waymans lesson condenses and reframes material from his 2014 book, Make the Words Your Own: An Early Christian Guide to the Psalms.
