Football topped 34-16 by Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. -- The football team opened their 2015 campaign with a 34-16 defeat by Millikin. Greenville led 3-0 at halftime but was outscored 28-7 in a game-changing third quarter.

The Panthers and Big Blue traded non-scoring possessions in the first and second quarter. Greenville got on the scoreboard with Michael Carie's 32 yard field goal as the second quarter began.

Millikin took their first four drives of the third quarter in for a touchdown.

Greenville got their first touchdown of the season when Cory Moore and Eric Northey connected for a 26 yard touchdown reception by Moore to cut the lead to 28-10.

Millikin tacked on an insurance touchdown in the fourth quarter, and Greenville closed the game with a 37 yard touchdown pass from Northey to Chase Stamatis.

Northey ended the game with 5-of-10 completed passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns.

Jacob Stull ran the ball 10 times for 47 yards.

Carie was perfect in his kicking efforts with a field goal and converted PAT.

Robert Deering led Greenville's defense with 11 tackles and a quarterback sack.

Cory Snyder picked up a fumble recovery and an interception.

The Panthers (0-1) face Minnesota - Morris next Saturday at Noon in the UMAC opener in Greenville.
