Football uses final minute touchdown to top Eureka

GREENVILLE, Ill. The football team improved their first place conference mark with a 30-27 win over Eureka on Saturday. Nathan Callaway ran for over 150 yards, and John Dudley caught a five yard pass from Eric Northey with 13 seconds remaining for the winning score.

Eureka scored first in the contest, taking a 6-0 lead into the second quarter after a 10 yard touchdown run by Kelley Noetzol came midway through the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Eric Northey put Greenville on the scoreboard with a 16 yard run for a touchdown and later connected with Samuel Northey on a 19 yard pass for a TD. Kicker Josh Morgan hit a 31 yard field goal as the half expired to give Greenville a 16-6 advantage at the intermission.

Eureka posted the games only scoring play of the third quarter as Dorell Baugh took a 35 yard pass from Blake Robles into the end zone.

Greenville sandwiched a three yard rushing touchdown by Nathan Callaway and Dudleys game winning score around two Eureka touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

On Greenvilles game winning drive, the squad converted four fourth downs to keep the game alive.

Callaway was Greenvilles leading rusher, churning out 153 yards on 30 carries. Samuel Northey produced 146 yards on 14 carries.

Eric Northey was 10-of-15 for 128 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Nicholas Morrow led the Panther defense with 11 tackles, including three for a loss of yards. Joey Silva and Devyn Comer picked up quarterback sacks.

The Panthers (2-1, 2-0 UMAC) travel to Martin Luther for a contest on Saturday, Sept. 27.
