GC Football with a 49-24 Victory

MORRIS, Minn.-- The Panthers proved to be the better team this weekend, overtaking UMAC opponent Minnesota Morris 49-24.

Immanuel Gamble scored the game's first touchdown off a 1 yard run 11 minutes into the game. GC's kicker, Josh Frewin made the extra point bringing the score to 7-0 GC. Minnesota quickly answered back three minutes later when Dalton DeGraffenreid caught a 49 yard pass from Morris QB Derrick Foss to tie up the game. Greenville retaliated with another touchdown, this time a 54 yardpass from PantherQB Brenden Chambers that was caught by Steven Glover. Frewin scored the extra point once again, bringing the score to 14-7. The first quarter ended with Morris' kicker, Cam Adel making a 35 yard field goal and leaving the score 14-10 GC.

In the second quarter, GC game out with a bang. The Panthers scored three consecutive touchdowns, a 7 yard run from Chambers, a 8 yard pass by Cody Hutchin, and a 42 yard interception from Corey Wright. Frewin made all three extra points. GC only allowed Minnesota Morris to score one touchdown in the quarter when DannyKernan caught a 31 yard pass from Foss. The quarter ended with an impressive35-17 Greenville lead.

Greenville continued to dominatethe game in the third, with two more touchdowns, an 11 yard run byGamble and a 17 yard run by Chambers. Frewin continued his streak and made both extra points, giving GC the 49-17 lead heading into the final quarter.

Minnesota had the only offensive gain in the fourth quarter, when Tyler Peterson caught a 5 yard pass to bring the game to its final score of 49-24 Greenville.

Gamble had 102 rushing yards in the game and Brenden Chambers had 134. Chambers also gained 97 passing yards.

Jonathan Uperesa, Joey Silva,and Erik Eisenbeis lead GC in tackles with 9, 9, and 8 respectively.

This win brings the Panther's record to 1-2. The men play at home on Saturday, Sept. 29th at 1:00p.m. as they take on Crown College.
