GC Men's Tennis Falls in Final Hilton Head Match

Following a day off, the Men's Tennis team took on Mt. Union on Friday morning in Hilton Head. The Panthers were looking to improve on their 3-1 record for the week. The Panthers were looking to improve on their 3-1 record for the week. Unfortunately, GC could not top their opposition and lost 6-3.

The team knew it would be a tough task, as Mt. Union came into the match with a 4-0 record on the week.

GC secured the first win in doubles. Jordan Tingle and Alex Dowley played very sharp tennis and came away with a quick 8-2 victory at # 2 doubles. Mt. Union scored the next point with a victory at #3 doubles 8-1. The #1 doubles match was a very tight contest. Mt. Union would prevail by a score of 9-7.

Freshman Code Power played a great match at #6 singles, winning by a score of 6-3, 6-3.

Mt Union would earn wins quickly at # 4 and #5 singles . Freshman Jon Urshan showed great poise in his match at #1 singles. After falling in his first set 6-1, he came back with a 6-3 win in the second set. He was then able to close the match by winning his supertiebreaker 10-6. His win kept the Panthers in the match, making the team score 4-3 for Mt. Union. Mt Union was able to close out the match with wins at #2 and #3 singles. Final team score Mt. Union 6, GC 3.

Coach Brannon was very pleased with his teams progress on their trip. "We had a great trip! We played five very competitive matches, and were able to come away with three wins. I thought we played with toughness and togetherness as a team, and learned more about what it is going to take for us to have a successful season!"

The Panthers record now stands at 4-3. They will travel to play Fontbonne in St. Louis on Wednesday, Mar. 20 at 6pm.
