Published: April 13, 2021

HILTON HEAD, S.C.-- The GC Men's Tennis Team started off their annual Spring Break trip to Hilton Head Island, SC with a dramatic 5-4 win over Messiah College.

The Panthers started off the day by sweeping all 3 doubles matches. The #1 doubles team of Jonathan Urshan and Drew Herlein played another very solid match, winning by a score of 8-4. The #2 team of Jordan Tingle and Alex Dowley continued their undefeated season by pulling out an 8-4 decision. Demetrius Bush and Ryan Haas also continued their undefeated season with another 8-4 victory at #3 doubles.

Jordan Tingle began singles play for the Panthers with a dominant performance at #2 singles. He started fast and never looked back, winning by a score of 6-1, 6-0. That left the Panthers needing only one more victory to clinch the team match. Messiah would not go quietly. They won the next 4 singles matches to even the match score 4-4. That set the stage for a dramatic finish. Ryan Haas was the final Panther left on court. After securing the first set 7-5, Haas was in position to clinch the victory for the Panthers. On match point, Haas came up with a big service winner to clinch the victory for the Panthers.

The Panthers season record now stands at 2-1. They will play again this afternoon in Hilton Head against Gordon College.
