GC Splits Double Header with Spalding

The Panthers traveled to Spalding University to begin conference play with a double header. Greenville lost the first game 4-2, but was able to pull out a victory the second game 7-6.

Spalding started the first game with two runs in the first inning, and added additional runs in the fifth and sixth. Greenville scored on a single to right field by C.J. Opp in the fourth inning, and another RBI single from Opp in the sixth.

The second game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when Spalding exploded with five runs. Greenville outscored Spalding 3-1 in the eighth, before adding three more in the ninth and sending the game into extra innings tied 6-6. Jared Storments sacrifice fly would allow Tim Osborne to score from second base and went on to win 7-6 after ten innings.

Mitchell Cernek, Trevor Montgomery, Storment, and Dathan Berning all had RBIs in the second game, Berning with two.

Greenville is now 4-8 on the season, 1-1 in conference. Eureka College will visit on Wednesday, March 26 for another conference double header.
