GC Students Provide Local Tax Service

Published: April 13, 2021

Tax season can be a frustrating time for people as they organize receipts, search online forms and pour over government instructions. Fear not; a group of Greenville College accounting students are using their unique talents to serve the local community this season.

The Greenville College Business Management Department is teaming up with the Bond County Senior Citizen Center to provide free tax preparation, including free e-filing for both Federal and State taxes, for people with a household income of $52,000 or less. This service is provided to people of all ages it is not limited to senior citizens. The Greenville College accounting students passed an IRS certification test and are working as part of the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Taking advantage of this program may save individuals $100 to $300 in tax preparation fees.

The Bond County Senior Citizen Center has agreed to coordinate this service by providing computers, software, facilities, and scheduling assistance. Call 618-664-1465 to make an appointment. The Bond County Senior Citizen Center is located at 1001 East Harris Avenue in Greenville, Ill.
