GC Welcomes Author Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove to Speak at 2015 ConvocationGreenville College begins its 2015-16 academic year with a convocation ceremony on Wednesday, August 26 at 9:30 a.m. in Whitlock Music Center. Celebrated spiritual writer, speaker and a leader in the New Monasticism movement, Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove will deliver an address titled The Good News of Enough on John 6:1-14. He will also present a colloquium discussion on his most recent book, Strangers at My Door: A True Story of Finding Jesus in Unexpected Guests, at 3:30 p.m. in LaDue Auditorium.

Wilson-Hartgrove is the author of several books on Christian spirituality including Strangers at my Door, The Awakening of Hope, The Wisdom of Stability and The New Monasticism and is a co-compiler of Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals. A graduate of Eastern University and Duke Divinity School, Jonathan is currently an Associate Minister at the historically black St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina. A leader in the New Monasticism movement, Wilson-Hartgrove speaks at churches, conferences, colleges and universities across denominations from an evangelical Christian perspective, connecting the broad spiritual tradition and its monastic witness. Additionally, he and his wife Leah founded the Rutba House, a ministry of hospitality where people who were formerly homeless experience community through meals, prayer and shared experiences. Wilson-Hartgrove serves as the director of the School for Conversion, a nonprofit which grew out of Rutba House as a pursuit of community through neighborhood outreach, classes in North Carolina prisons and community-based education throughout the United States.

The convocation ceremony and colloquium both are free and open to the public.

Greenville College is a four-year accredited Christian liberal arts school serving approximately 1,400 undergraduate and graduate students. Founded in 1892 and affiliated with the Free Methodist Church, the college is located in Greenville, Illinois, 45 miles east of St. Louis.
