GC Welcomes Fr. David Meconi, S.J. to Campus for Third Annual McAllaster Lecture

Greenville College is pleased to welcome Fr. David Vincent Meconi, S.J., D.Phil. (Oxon.) on Wednesday, October 22. Meconi will present a chapel address at 9:30 a.m. and the Third Annual McAllaster Lecture at 6:30 p.m. Both presentations will take place in Whitlock Music Center.

Fr. Meconi, S.J is an assistant professor of Early Christianity in the Department of Theological Studies at Saint Louis University. He is also the editor of Homiletic and Pastoral Review. He holds the pontifical license in Patrology from the University of Innsbruck and the D.Phil. in Ecclesiastical History from Oxford University.Most recently he publishedCalled to Be Children of God: The History of Catholic Deification(Ignatius Press),TheAnnotated Confessions of Saint Augustine(Ignatius Press),The One Christ: St. Augustine's Theology of Deification(Catholic University of America Press), as well as co-edited (along with Eleonore Stump) theCambridge Companion to Augustine(2014). He is a former president ofthe Jesuit Philosophical Association, as well as a Fellow at the Augustinian Institute at Villanova University.

Meconis chapel presentation, Sin: Its No Longer Original will address the seven deadly sins, focusing specifically on self-loathing and self-harm. Meconis presentation for the third annual Greenville College McAllaster Lecture, You Are No Longer a Christian, You are Christ! will examine deification, the ancient Christian view of holiness as becoming God. Meconis visit is sponsored by the Greenville College Chapel Program and the COR 102 program.
