#GivingTuesdayGU: Emily Brandland ’20, Engineering

Published: April 13, 2021

With curriculum that integrates various engineering disciplines and hands-on work with professional instrumentation, the Greenville University Department of Engineering and Physics will prepare Emily for work in a rapidly changing field. At the same time, the Greenville University community prepares her with lessons even more profound.

Department Chair Hyung Choi describes the work of engineers as creating something the world has never seen before. Similarly, Emily is learning through faculty mentors and spiritual discipleship that she is something the world has never seen before, uniquely crafted by a divine creator.

We are all uniquely made, Emily says, and I believe that the [Greenville University] staff does a great job of acknowledging that. They are so willing to pour into our lives.

Conversations with faculty helped Emily see that she is loved and has a distinct purpose as a child of God. She experienced personal growth in other unlooked-for ways as well. G.U.s commitment to Christ helped form a strong basis for her faith, and participating in womens basketball taught her to find personal worth in something even higher than excellent performance. The team taught me that my worth is found in Christ, she says.

Emily will graduate equipped to thrive in a demanding field and equipped for a lifetime of faithall thanks to G.U. donors.

I am thankful for scholarship donors because they have made coming to this college possible, Emily says.

You can help students like Emily get the best of both worldsinnovative preparation in their fields and profound personal growth. Thank you for your gift to #GivingTuesdayGU.
