Global Impact Week Provides Opportunities to Engage in Local and Global Issues

Published: April 13, 2021

Greenville College will host Global Impact Week Oct. 1 through Oct. 5. A variety of events are scheduled to encourage awareness and involvement in current humanitarian issues. Eighteen missionary and outreach groups from around the globe will be represented on campus. All events are free and open to the public.

"Global Impact Week is a special emphasis week for the purpose of developing our community's worldview, drawing attention to the urgent needs around the world, and discovering our unique role as Christians in addressing those needs," said Rebecca McColl, director of world outreach and missions at Greenville College. "We want to make our students and community aware of the different issues going on in our world today and provide them with opportunities to get involved."

Jeff and Pam Wilson will share their story about a trip to Burundi with Hope International University at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 1 in the Whitlock Music Center. This will also be a unique opportunity to hear the Greenville College choir perform an African song. Jeff Wilson is the music department chair and director of choral activities at Greenville College.

Global Impact Week will also feature The Simple Room, a local nonprofit organization that provides free youth programs with assistance from a network of volunteers, churches and community organizations. Lee O'Connor, director of The Simple Room, will speak on Oct. 2 at 5 p.m. in the upstairs section of the Sims Student Union.

A variety of workshops are available on Oct. 3 in the Dietzman Center starting at 3:30 p.m. featuring presenters from organizations like Free Methodist World Missions and Wycliffe Bible Translators. Shopping will be available at the "global market" on Oct. 4 on Scott Field from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. International products will be sold to support global missionaries.
