Gosselin Honored As Lincoln Laureate

Published: April 13, 2021

Greenville College student Alyssa Gosselin of Derby, Vt., was among the college seniors honored by the Lincoln Academy of Illinois at its Student Laureate Convocation, Nov. 2, 2013. Each honoree received a Student Laureate Medallion, a certificate of achievement and an honorarium check for $1,000. Presentations were made at the Old State Capitol Site in Springfield. A luncheon for honorees and their guests followed at the Illinois Executive Mansion.

Each year, the Lincoln Academy honors select seniors from colleges and universities throughout the state who demonstrate excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities. Professor Ken Schmidt, Alyssas academic advisor (pictured above with Alyssa), said that she is the kind of student every professor enjoys. She is intelligent, a great problem solver and has great personality. In every class, her first goal is to learn as much as she can; then she focuses on her grade. She also asks a lot of questions, which makes any professor happy.

Alyssa is currently pursuing a major in elementary education with a minor in music. In addition to her regular classroom work, she is writing an honors paper that explores the intentions of pre-service teachers to use web 2.0 technologies to facilitate collaboration in their eventual classrooms. She also serves as president of GCs Education Honors Society and sings with the College choir and Chamber Singers. She is often seen in chapel and midweek vespers services performing with one of the Colleges worship arts ensembles.

While at Greenville College, Alyssas academic excellence has earned her the Deans Scholarship and the Lily and John Burd Scholarship for Teacher Education. She would eventually like to pursue a masters degree in education.
