Greenville Choral Union to Begin Messiah Rehearsals September 22

GREENVILLE, IL The Greenville Choral Union will begin vocal rehearsals for its Eighty-fifth Anniversary Season on Tuesday, September 22 at 7:00 p.m. Singers (high school age and older) are invited to join this fine ensemble. Rehearsals will be held in the James E. Wilson Recital Hall in the Whitlock Music Center on the Greenville College campus located at the corner of College Avenue and Elm Street.

This years concert marks the eighty-fifth performance of George Frideric Handels oratorio Messiah in Greenville. The 110-voice Choral Union and 50-piece orchestra will perform selections from Parts 1, 2 & 3 of Messiah. Handels oratorio was premiered in Dublin, Ireland in 1741 in a benefit concert for a childrens hospital. In honor of this tradition, half of the proceeds from the Greenville performance on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in the Whitlock Music Center Recital Hall at Greenville College will be given to International Child Care Ministries, a Christian organization that assists underprivileged children around the world with basic necessities such as food, medicine, and education.

This years presentation will include professional orchestral players from the St. Louis region and eight alumni vocal soloists who are returning to Greenville for the event from Missouri, Minnesota, Indiana and Illinois. A special effort is also being made to invite alumni chorus members to sing for the concert.
