Filby began his work as Greenville College president in July after the Board of Trustees unanimously affirmed the recommendation of the presidential search committee. Filby began his teaching career as a lecturer in Business Studies at the University of Dublin: Trinity College (1989-1996), during which time he created and oversaw 30 international partnerships. Promoted to director of International Student Affairs (1996-2004), he managed the universitys 150 exchange partnerships, as well as the recruitment of students from outside of the European Union.

Led by Gods call to shape the lives of Christian college students and equipped with extensive international business experience, Filby left behind a highly-esteemed position in Dublin, Ireland and moved his family to Greenville in January of 2005. During his tenure at Greenville College, Filby developed numerous new programs, directed AgapeFest, and served as faculty assembly moderator. Filby was honored with the 2010 W. Richard Stephens Outstanding Faculty Award. Filby served one year as dean of the Fermanian School of Business at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego where he also developed new programs and strengthened relationships with business alumni.

Filby completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Management and his Bachelor of Science in Managerial and Administrative Studies degrees at the prestigious Aston University in the United Kingdom. He also completed a Master of Arts at the University of Dublin in Ireland and a Master of Arts in Evangelism Studies at the University of Sheffield (Cliff College), also located in the United Kingdom.
