Greenville College to Host Vocal Health Presentation

Published: April 13, 2021

Greenville College will host a vocal health presentation by Robert W. Bastian, M.D. of the Bastian Voice Institute in the Greater Chicago area. The presentation will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, November 6 on campus in room 306 of the Whitlock Music Center. This event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Bastian is a Board Certified Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat physician) who has practiced Laryngology exclusively since 1987. He is an internationally recognized authority in the treatment of voice, airway, swallowing, and coughing disorders, having been invited to teach in university and professional society contexts in the U.S. and abroad.

Dr. Bastian was arguably the first in North America to promote the voice-restoring possibilities of vocal fold microsurgery in singers with otherwise irreversible disorders. An independent thinker, Dr. Bastian began this work at a time when experts condemned this type of surgery as unsafe to the trained voice. He is one of the premier North American surgeons in this field and has operated on an estimated 1,200 singers with diverse vocal fold problems, not to mention thousands of non-singers.
