GU Donors Come Through for Students 4 Years In A Row

Published: April 13, 2021

GUs faithful Financial Champions maintained a four-year streak of meeting fundraising goals to help students when they gave to the #GivingTuesdayGU 2019 fundraising campaign.

For four years in a row, donors have met or exceeded GUs Giving Tuesday fundraising goals, and December 3, 2019, was no different. Donors raised $35,000the most ambitious #GivingTuesdayGU goal so farin a down-to-the-wire race against time. It was a nail-biter that night with donations hovering just under goal at 11:59 pm. Then, seven seconds before midnight, the final gift of the day came through online, pushing #GivingTuesdayGU over the edge to a $35,025 total.

Alumni and friends of the University gave mostly online and mostly in support of The Greenville University Fund, which helps support student scholarships.

Assistant VP of Advancement Heather Fairbanks couldnt say enough about donors generosity. Giving Tuesday is a great way to kick off the season of giving. GU students were so bountifully blessed by donors with these generous gifts toward student scholarships and various programs. They appreciate your support, and I thank you as well!

Fairbanks reported these totals after Giving Tuesday:

  • Goal: $35K
  • Achieved $35,025
  • First gift received ($8,000) at 8:20 am
  • Last gift received ($100 gift) at 11:59 pm
  • Smallest gift: $10
  • Largest gift: $8,000

This critical help from donors arrived just weeks before Greenville University is set to announce its Panther Preferred scholarship recipients for the 2020/2021 school year. The University awards the renewable Panther Preferred Scholarships to incoming students who have overcome significant challenges and persevered in their studies.

Next fall, these students will become part of the GU family and discover a network of alumni and friends ready to help them succeed.
