GU Trustee Emeritus David Fisher PassesGreenville University Trustee Emeritus David Fisher 58 passed away June 17, 2020. He was 84.

A long-time engineer for Allen-Bradley Rockwell, Fisher served GU as a trustee from 1988 to 2015. He worked on the Boards Business Affairs Committee and Trusteeship Committee.

His invaluable contributions included securing a major gift that allowed completion of the four-story addition, the Irwin L. Young Tower, to the Ruby E. Dare Library on GUs campus.

He was a wonderful man, President Emeritus W. Richard Stephens recalled, noting that Fisher and his wife of 60 years Bonnie (Wiegand 57) operated very much as a team.

Fishers board leadership extended to other organizations as well. He served on the Board of Administration for the North Central Conference of the Free Methodist Church and on the Board of Administration for the Free Methodist Church USA. He served on the Board of Trustees for Hearthstone Communities (Woodstock, IL) and on the Board of Directors for Olive Branch Mission (Chicago).

Colleagues recall Fisher as a thoughtful communicator who demonstrated great understanding and appreciation for how the laws of the state apply to the work of a board or committee. He knew how to engage in what many today regard as a fading artcivil discourse, even in the face of disagreement.

David and Bonnies four children--Julie (Fisher 84) Landrum, Jolene (Fisher 85) Platz, James, and John--all attended Greenville University.

Visitation will take place at the New Berlin Free Methodist Church, 2975 S. Sunny Slope Road, New Berlin, Wisconsin, 53151, on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, from 9 to 11 a.m. A funeral service at the same location will immediately follow.
