Lady Panther Volleyball Swept in Day 2 of Star Classic

RIVER FOREST, Ill.-- The GC Women's Volleyball team lost bothmatches 0-3 in day 2 of the 2012 Dominican Star Classic.

The Panthers played Willamette University in their first match of the day. The first set ended 15-25 with Willamette coming out on top.The second setwas closer, as GC managed tokeep it within five points. Unfortunately, the Panthers were unable to overtake Willamette and the set ended20-25. The last set finished with a score of 19-25, leaving the match with a final score of 0-3. Greenville had 3 team blocks in the match. Jamie Schollenbruch lead GC in digs with 11, with Ansley DeVrieze contributing 7 and Ellen Lueking recording 6. Offensively, Tricia Gall lead the team with 7 kills, followed by DeVrieze and Marissa Lovelladding 5 each.

In Greenville's second game of the day, they met Lakeland College for the second time this weekend.The sets ended with scores of 14-25, 20-25, and19-25, respectively. The match score was 0-3, despite GC's unyielding effort throughout the match. Defensively, GC had 3 team blocks and 40 total digs. Schollenbruch posted 15, Holli Meredith adding 9, and DeVrieze got 7 total digs in the match. On the attack, the Lady Panthersposted 27 kills, with Lovell recording 10 andGall getting 5. Ellen Lueking lead the Panthers in assists, recording an impressive 23 in the match.

The team returns from the tournament with a record of 5-4. The ladies take the court at 7:00pm at home in their first SLIACmatch of the season. They play MacMurray in hopes of starting their Conference play off with a win.
