Lady Panthers Play Principia to 1-1 Tie in 2OT

Published: April 13, 2021

ELSAH, Ill. -- The GC women's soccer team traveled to Principia College and came away with an important 1-1 tie after 110 minutes. The result ensured the Lady Panthers' second place finish in the SLIAC for the 2013 regular season.

The first half went by scoreless, with both teams playing strong defense. The second half went on similarly until the 72nd minute when Principia's Hayley MacWilliams scored an unassisted goal to bring the home team up 1-0. Greenville refused to go down that easy and, just five minutes later, Kieley Leach stole the ball from a Principia defender and shot it into the top left corner of the net to bring the score to a 1-1 tie.Despite two ten minute overtime periods, the game ended in a draw with both teams getting a point in the SLIAC.

GC goalkeeper, Heidi Koehl, was credited with the tie, making 6 key saves throughout the 110 minute match.

The tie brings the Lady Panthers' record to 7-9-2, with a Conference record of 6-1-2, the best SLIAC record of any GC women's soccer team in the history of the program. It also means that Greenville finishes second in Conference for the 2013 regular season and will host Principia on Thursday, November 7, in the first round of the SLIAC tournament.
