Madrid, Hershkowitz pick up SLIAC men's soccer player of the week honors

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Freshman Jonny Madrid and senior Richie Hershkowitz have been selected as SLIAC offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively.

Madrid, of Grayslake, Ill., netted a hat trick in his team's only game last week, a 7-0 win over Iowa Wesleyan.

Madrid scored just three minutes into the game and added a second goal just over 10 minutes later. He completed the hat trick with a goal on a penalty kick midway through the second half.

Madrid maintained his season long efficiency, scoring his three goals on just three shots.

On the year he has placed all 16 of his shots on net, holding a 44 percent shot percentage; tops in the conference.

Hershkowitz, of Galesburg, Ill., helped his team to a shutout win over Iowa Wesleyan, extending the Panthers winning streak to three games.

Hershkowitz played all 90 minutes in the game as the Greenville defense limited Iowa Wesleyan to just one shot on goal and two shots overall.

The Panther defense has now put together three consecutive shutouts.
