Men’s basketball knocks off MacMurray

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. The mens basketball team picked up a critical conference win with an upset of first place MacMurray on Saturday. The Panthers won 83-79 behind Tim Daniels 16 point outing.

Greenvilles scoring was balanced as Elmo Smith had 14 points, Ron Harris posted 13 points, and Brian Ehresman and Stevonte Young each tallied 12 points.

The Panthers took a 10 point lead into halftime as they led 42-32. MacMurray stormed back, taking a five point lead with 7:46 remaining in the game, but Greenville outscored the Highlanders by nine over the remainder of the contest.

Greenville outshot MacMurray in all areas as they made 27-of-51 field goals for a 52.9 percent clip, 9-of-21 three pointers, an 20-of-25 free throws.

Harris was Greenvilles leading rebounder and assist producer as he collected six rebounds and five assists.

The Panthers (12-10, 9-6 SLIAC) hold the fourth place position in the SLIAC and return to action Tuesday at Principia.
