COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The men's soccer team suffered their first conference defeat of the season as they lost 5-0 to Westminster on Wednesday night.

Westminster struck early, pushing two goals past Greenville goalkeeper Ian Hodge in the first eight minutes of the contest.

Westminster tacked on three goals in the second half.

Jonny Madrid led Greenville as he had four shots.

Hodge stopped seven shots and permitted five goals.

"Hats off to Westminster," said head coach Chris Swift. "They are a very talented team and they beat us tonight."

"We gave up two goals pretty early, but after that, we settled pretty nicely and had two great opportunities to get back in the match. In big games like that, you have to take your chances when you get them, and we didn't do that tonight, but we had chances."

"At the end of the day, it is a great experience for our young team to be playing in matches with this significance, and we will be better for this experience."

"The best news is that we still have so much to play for this season. There is a small chance at a regular season championship, and we will have a home tournament game. When you're in the tournament, anything can happen, and we are still fighting for NCCAA regional tournament eligibility."

The Panthers (10-8, 7-1 SLIAC) travel to Webster for the final regular season match of the season on Saturday. The Panthers can qualify for the NCCAA regional with a win Saturday and a win in their semifinal tournament match on Wednesday against Spalding, Webster, or Fontbonne.
