Men's track and field wins Greenville Invitational

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's track and field team took first place at Saturday's Greenville Invitational in a field of 10 teams with 199 points. The event, which doubled as the SLIAC Invitational, saw Greenville tally 242 points in the conference portion of the meet.

Greenville finished with first place finishes in 11 events on the day, highlighted by their dominant short track members.

Bruce Gray captured the 100 meter title, finishing first with a time of 10.90 seconds.

Jonah Peoples and Matthew McGowen took the 200 and 400 meter dash events as well. Peoples claimed the 200 meter title with a time of 22.22 seconds while McGowen finished the 400 meter race in a time of 51.94 seconds.

The Panthers short distance domination continued in the 800 meter race when Andrew Sharp took first with a time of 1:57.46.

Sharp took first once more, winning the 1500 meter race with a time of 4:00.54.

Peoples went on from the 200 meter race to compete in the 110 meter hurdles, taking first in the event with a time of 15.08 seconds.

Ben Barber grabbed the 3000 meter steeplechase title with a time of 10:11.32.

The Panthers short distance runners (Terran Daniels, Bruce Gray, Jarrid Williams, and Jonah Peoples) came together to capture the 4x100 meter relay title with a time of 42.46 seconds.

The Panthers field members would not be outdone.

Williams added a title in the long jump with a distance of 6.38 meters, reaching that distance on his first jump of the finals.

Williams continued with a first place finish in the triple jump, a distance of 13.58 meters.

Ben Waugh took home the title in the hammer throw with a distance of 51.76 meters.

Qualifying members of the squad will compete in the NCCAA championships in Rome, Ga., April 30-May 2.
