Men’s Cross Country Takes 9th at Brissman-Lundeen Invitational

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. The GC squad captured their second top ten finish of 2011 on Friday as they raced 9th place in Rock Island, Ill.

Pitted against 33 teams and 403 total runners, Greenville was led by Senior Xavier Ortiz who crossed the Saukie Golf Course timeline with a personal best effort of 25:55.7. Ortiz claimed the top spot for the Panthers and finished 29th overall in the contest.

Other notables included sophomore Bryant Simpson and senior Coree Woltering who finished in the two and three spots for Greenville in Fridays race. Simpson completed the course in a time of 26:22.2 while Woltering crossed seconds later at 26:25.0.

The contest included six SLIAC member institutions with Principia outpacing Greenville for the top spot within the 33-team invitational by a close point margin of 255 to 298. Webster University posted the next closest team total within the conference, finishing with 706 points for 24th place. Westminster, Fontbonne, and Eureka followed in 25th, 26th, and 30th to round out the SLIAC spread.

Greenville College mens cross country will again take the course Saturday, October 8 as they travel to Terre Haute, Ind. to race in the Rose-Hulman Gibson Family Invitational at 11:00 am.
