Men's Soccer Defeats #2 OMU

Published: April 13, 2021

CINCINNATI - Greenville men's soccer went on the road Monday and used a dramatic come from behind win over the #2 ranked team in the nation at Ohio Midwestern University.

It was a freshman showcase with Mitch Stewart (St. Louis, MO) and Ryan Sanfilippo (Florissant, MO) notching goals on the day. Senior midfielder Cobi Allen (St. Louis, MO) and freshman midfielder Joe Iannazzone (Eueka, MO) contributed to the win with an assist each.

It was a rocky start for the Panthers as the OMW grabbed a 1-0 lead early in the first half of play. The OMW goal would hold until the 68th minute when Stewart would figure in the first of two quick goals.

Allen assisted Stewart on the game-tying score in the 68th minute. Thirteen minutes later Iannazzone found himself free on the left flank where he placed a brilliant ball back post to find the foot of Sanfilippo as the Panthers captured a 2-1 win.

Greenville used an impressive offensive performance to outshoot the home side 23 10 in the rally.

Coming into the game OMU had a record of 10-1 and held the #2 USCAA national ranking. With the win, the Panthers improve to 7-5-3 overall and 3-1 in SLIAC conference play.

Greenville will return to Francis Field on Saturday for their homecoming. The Panthers will host Eureka at 1 pm on October 15.
