Men's Soccer Defeats NCAA Division II Salem International University 9-1

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's soccer team topped NCAA Division II Salem International University 9-1 Thursday at the John M. Strahl Athletic Complex.

The Panthers started strong with senior Chris Allen (Decatur, Ill.) opening the scoring in the 11th minute with a header to give the Panthers an early 1-0 lead. Juniors Daniel Taylor (Villa Ridge, Mo.) and Cobi Allen (St. Louis, Mo.) provided a goal in the 22nd and 23rd minute, respectively. Freshman Mark Ward (Waynesburg, Mo.) scored two goals late in the first half to give the Panthers a 5-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Panthers continued their success in the second half with senior Josh Mulholland (Davison, Mich.) scoring goals in the 59th and 70th minutes. Sophomore Daniel Ruder (Morton, Ill.) and freshman Jacob Krisher (Galesburg, Ill.) added goals to give the Panthers a 9-1 victory.

Junior Andy Gibb-Clark (Moline, Ill.) and Ward contributed with two assists each. Krisher, Allen, and Ruder also contributed with assists on the day.

Junior goalkeeper Nathan Haas (Belleville, Ill.) was credited the win, and Thomas Crown (Crestwood, Mo.) contributed to the win with one save in the second half.

The Panthers' record improved to 12-4-1. They will travel to St. Louis to compete against Webster University on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m.
