Published: April 13, 2021

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Greenville men's soccer team started their conference season with a record of 1-0 after a 7-0 win over MacMurray.

The Panthers controlled the possession of the match. Junior David Dunlop (Coleraine, Northern Ireland) opened the scoring with a goal four minutes into the match. Junior Craig "Cobi" Allen (St. Louis, Mo.) was credited with the assist. In the ninth minute, Greenville was awarded a corner kick. Senior Chris Allen (Decatur, Ill.) bent a brilliant ball that found the head of senior Terrance Cosby (Jefferson City, Mo.) to extend the lead to 2-0.

In the 21st minute, Dunlop found the foot of sophomore Nathan Mayberry (Mascoutah, Ill.) who then struck the ball 20 yards past the keeper. Shortly after Mayberry's goal, Cobi Allen scored from a negative diagonal ball played by freshman Jacob Krisher (Galesburg, Ill.). Andy Gibb-Clark would add an unassisted goal as well to extend the lead to 5-0 entering halftime.

In the second half, many of the Panthers had the opportunity to contribute. Freshman Mark Ward (Waynesburg, Mo.) scored in the 88th minute on a through ball by senior Mason Geyer (Wildwood, Mo.). Freshman Aaron Mulholland (Davison, Mich.) ended the score-fest in the 89th minute with a brilliant strike from 30 yards out to end the match with a 7-0 victory over MacMurray.

The Panthers improved to 6-3 (1-0 SLIAC). The Panthers host Webster on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at the John M. Strahl Athletic Complex.
