Men's Tennis Defeats Illinois College 7-2

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.-- The GC Men's Tennis team traveled to Illinois College and brought home their first win of 2013, finishing the match with a 7-2 victory.

The Panthers started quickly as they took 2 of the 3 doubles matches. First it was Demetrius Bush and Jordan Tingle getting the win at #2 doubles with a quick and convincing win of 8-1. Next came a harder fought victory for the #1 doubles tandom of Drew Herlein and Jon Urshan, by a score of 8-5. Illinois College was able to salvage a doubles point by winning at #3 doubles by a score of 8-5.

The Panthers quickly took control of singles as Alex Dowley won at #4 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-1. The next Panther to close out his match was Freshman Code Power with a convincing 6-0, 6-0 score at #5 singles. The Blueboys of Illinois College then scored their one and only singles win with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph at #1 singles. But the Panthers were not to be denied on this night. Sophomore Drew Herlein came up with the clinching singles victory as he comfortably cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at #3 singles. To round out the scoring for the Panthers, Jordan Tingle won at #2 singles with a score of 6-2, 6-1, and senior Ryan Mulholland closed out the evening with a big service winner on match point to clinch his match at #6 singles, by a score of 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.

Panthers season record now stands at 1-1. Their next contest will be against Messiah College on March 11th at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
