Men's Tennis Loses to Westminster 6-3

Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill.-- The GC Men closed out their conference season with a home loss to Westminster 6-3. The Panthers came out strong in doubles, capturing the #2 doubles match with a score of 8-5 by Alex Dowley and Jordan Tingle. They almost pulled off a win at #1, losing a close one 9-7.

Westminster used their momentum from doubles as the team match moved to singles play, as they quickly gained wins at #4 and #1 singles. Freshman Code Power earned the first singles point for GC, as he came back to win a three set decision at the #6 spot. Sophomore Jordan Tingle claimed another victory for GC as he played one of his most complete matches of the season, winning by a score of 6-4, 6-3. Westminster closed out the match with straight set victories at #3 and #5 singles. Final Team score: Westminster 6, GC 3.

Coach Brannon stated I was very pleased with our effort tonight. Westminster is a senior dominated team, with 4 of their 6 starters graduating this year. We lost to them 9-0 last year. We are definitely making great progress. I still think we have our best match in front of us.

The Panthers close the regular season with an overall record of 11-8 (2-3 SLIAC). They will take on Fontbonne at 11am on Friday in quarterfinal play in the SLIAC Tournament. If they win, they will earn a rematch with #1 seeded Webster University at 2pm on Friday in the semifinals.
