Published: April 13, 2021

BEREA, Ky. GC mens tennis traveled to Kentucky for a weekend road trip spanning Friday and Saturday as they took the court against Berea College in day one action and Asbury in day two play. Greenville dominated the first match, blanking Berea 8-0, but dropped the finale against Asbury 5-4.

In day one action against Berea the squad showed little problems in the sweep. #2 singles, Ian Wolf, won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 in a convincing performance, while Greenville took all of both the singles, 6-0, and doubles, 2-0, victories for the 8-0 decision.

Day twos matchup against Asbury proved to be a much tougher contest for the Panthers. #1 Joe Newlin, #2 Wolf, and #4 Jesse Shaw, picked up the wins in singles play, while #3 Taylor Dunnington, #5 Ryan Haas, and #6 Brent Wiedman, fell to equalize the individual decisions at 3-3.

In doubles, the tandem of Newlin and Wolf served GC the win 8-6 in #1 play, but #2 and #3 doubles struggled to find their groove and dropped the matches 8-2, 8-4 respectively. Asbury clinched the close victory 5-4 over the Panthers.

Mens tennis will return to action Tuesday, April 5, as they face Webster at home. Matches will be played at the Scott J. Burgess Tennis Complex and are scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.
