Published: April 13, 2021

Bring all the special ladies in your life out for a memorable afternoon of musical entertainment especially for moms. The Greenville College Concert Band will present its Mother's Day Concert on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at 4 p.m. in the Whitlock Music Center. This is the band's final offering in the 2012-13 performance series.

The concert program will showcase a trio of trumpets in Leroy Anderson's Bugler's Holiday, with Professor Will Fairbanks, GC senior Jarod Garcia, and St. Louis-area musician Dallas Blair as the featured musicians. Dallas Blair is a free-lance trumpet performer, teacher, composer, and a founding member of the Celebration Brass Quintet of Saint Louis. His performing experience includes the Knoxville and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestras, the Erie Philharmonic and brass bands in both St. Louis and England. For the past 20 years, he was trumpet instructor at Washington University in St. Louis.

From Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man to Themes from Silverado, all musical tastes will find something to enjoy in this year's closing performance. Two graduating seniors, Devri Hughan and Alicia Mullins, will also have the opportunity to conduct the band as they prepare to graduate with degrees in music education. Mom is sure to appreciate this concert celebrating her unconditional love, so be sure to bring her out for a tuneful post-lunch or pre-dinner experience.

The Greenville College Concert Band is under the baton of Professor Will Fairbanks. Since his arrival at Greenville College in 2010, the instrumental music ensembles have grown to include the 55-piece concert band in addition to a traditional big band jazz ensemble, the Panther Corps Marching Band, and the basketball pep band. Don't miss the GC Jazz Band's final on-campus performance, "Jumpin' at the GC Side," on May 14 at 7 p.m. in the Whitlock Music Center. The following Friday, May 17, the Jazz Band will be "In the Mood for Dinner and Dancing" at Cunetto's Restaurant in Greenville, from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
