Panther Baseball Can't Top Webster in Double-Header

ST. LOUIS, Mo.-- The GC Baseball team traveled to Webster University on Tuesday and could not pull off the upset, losing 3-1 and 5-4 to the SLIAC powerhouse.

In the first game, Kenny Trager recorded the only Greenville hit of the game with a triple. Dalton McFarland had an RBI for GC. Tyler Pilcher was credited with the loss, pitching five innings and allowing 6 hits and two runs. Scott Voyles also got an inning on the mound, facing 6 batters and allowing 3 hits and a run. The final score; GC 1, Webster 3.

The second game of the double-header was closer for the Panthers, as they came out swinging and had a 3-2 lead until the ninth inning. GC scored a run in the top of the ninth, but it would not prove to be enough. Unfortunately for Greenville, Webster refused to go down easily and they had a ninth inning come back, scoring three runs to earn the 5-4 win. Offensively, Ryan Smith hit a homer for two GC RBI and Hunter Bryan and Dylan Goldsmith each earned an RBI. Josh Wagemann, Nick Bifano, and Scott Voyles all saw time on the mound, with Voyles recording the loss. Wagemann faced 20 batters and gave up 2 runs, Bifano pitched to 13 batters and allowed just 2 hits and no runs, and Voyles faced 8 batters, allowed 4 hits, and gave up three runs.

The team's record now moves to 8-13 (5-7 SLIAC). They are scheduled to play again at home on April 12 when they take on fellow SLIAC team, Westminster.
