Panther Baseball Splits Blackburn Double-Header

GREENVILLE, Ill.-- After yesterdays win against the Beavers, the GC Panthers took the field to play Blackburn once again. This time, both teams earned a win in a close battle for the SLIAC points.
Greenville came out swinging early, earning the 6-4 win in 7 innings. GC was impressive on offense, with Ryan Smith crushing two homeruns and both Kenny Trager and Mitchell Cernek hitting a double a piece for Greenville. Smith finished the game with an impressive 5 RBIs. Tyler Mitchell and Scott Voyles shared the mound for GC, with Mitchell pitching 5 innings and Voyles pitching 2. Mitchell faced 22 batters, allowing 6 hits and 4 runs against GC. Voyles faced 8 batters and allowed just 2 hits.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, Blackburn refused to go down without a fight and took the second game 10-2. Hunter Bryan had a double for GC and Ryan Smith had another 2 RBIs. Three athletes pitched for GC; Dylan Bone, Nathan Garbe, and Jason Collingwood. Bone faced 29 batters, allowing 8 hits and 7 runs in the 5.2 innings he pitched. Garbe faced 7 batters and allowed 3 hits that all led to runs for Blackburn. Collingwood pitched for one inning and only allowed one hit.
These games brings GC to a record of 6-8 (3-2 SLIAC). They will take on Fontbonne in their next game on April 2.
