Panther Soccer First Loss of the Season

GREENVILLE, Ill-- The GC men's soccer team was defeated 2-1 by Austin College, giving the Panthers their first loss of the 2012 season.

The first half included many chances for both teams. Austin College got the first goal of the game when Andrew Johnson finished a free kick from Mason Waddell with just 4 minutes left in the half.Greenville answered not long after with a goal by Dan Ruder who's shot deflected off an opposing defender and went in with only 17 seconds in the first half. Mark Ward was credited with the assist. GC outshot the visitors 8-4 in the half and the score was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Austin College scored the game's final goal in the 58th minute of the game when a corner kick was loose in the box and Andrew Parides shot the ball past GC goalkeeper, Ian McReynolds. This brought the game to its final score of 2-1 Austin College. McReynolds was credited with 3 saves in the second half.

This game brings the men's record to 4-1. They will play at home tomorrow when Lindenwood-Belleville comes to town. Kickoff is at 4:00p.m on Saturday.
