Published: April 13, 2021

ELSAH, Ill.-- The GC Men's Tennis team beat SLIAC opponent Fontbonne 9-0 in their first Conference game of the season.

The Panthers began conference play on Wednesday evening with a match at Fontbonne University. After a successful Spring Break trip, GC was looking to get a quick start in conference play.

Like other spring sports on campus, the Men's tennis team has been battling some rough weather over the last couple of weeks. Due to cold temps on Wednesday, the match against Fontbonne was moved to Principia's indoor Hexberg Tennis Center.

The Panthers quickly gained a sweep in doubles. Alex Dowley and Freshman Mason Tennell had the most convincing victory of the evening as they cruised to an 8-0 victory at #3 doubles.

Singles would be a night headlined by two Panther seniors. Jonathan Allen made quick work of his opponent at #5 singles, by winning 6-1, 6-1. Senior Ryan Mulholland followed that up with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at # 6 singles. The Panthers went on to sweep all of the singles matches. Final match score GC 9, Fontbonne 0.

The Panthers season record now stands at 5-3 overrall, 1-0 in SLIAC Conference. They will host Judson University on Saturday, March 23rd at 2pm at the Scott Burgess Tennis Complex.
