Panthers Control Storm, Win 50-12

It took a 13 hour trip for the Panthers to find their first win of the 2011 season. Greenville (1-3, 1-2 UMAC) traveled to St. Bonifacius, MN to take on Crown College (0-4, 0-3 UMAC) Saturday and left win a 50-12 win.

JR RB Bobby Hughley (New York, NY) led the Panthers in rushing with 236 yards on 24 carries. SO QB Brendan Chambers (San Clemente, CA) finished the day with 165 yards rushing on 18 attempts and 4 touchdowns. In the air Chambers had 133 yards passing, completing 10 of 17 attempts and 1 touchdown.

Up 13-0 in the 2nd quarter the Panthers were forced to punt. The Storm muffed the punt which gave the Panthers the ball on their own 40 yard line. The gift wasn't wasted and led to a 10 yard run by SO RB Anthony Moore (Troup, TX) making the score 20-0.

Moore had a great all-around game for the Panthers. In addition to his 15 attempts for 82 yards and 2 touchdowns, Moore had 5 tackles on special teams.

At the half Greenville led Crown 27-6. The third quarter was more of the same for the Panthers when Chambers finished off their first drive with a 1 yard touchdown run.

Greenville's second drive ended abruptly when the Storm forced and recovered a fumble.

The Panther defense soon found their back against the goal line with the Storm threatening to score. On 4th and goal the Panthers showed their claws and stopped the Storm one yard short of the goal line.

The Panther offense made the most of the opportunity and set up SO K Josh Frewin (Payson, AZ) for a 37 yard FG, his first of the season.

The 4th quarter saw the Panthers score through the air on a Chambers pass to SR TE Demontrez Simington (Atlanta, GA). He finished the day with 3 catches for 58 yards and 1 touchdown.
Moore scored the final Panther touchdown with just under eight minutes left in the game.

On defense the Panthers were led by FR CB Jordan Ruffin (Festus, MO) who had 7.5 tackles. SO LB Monte Beverly (Fairview Heights, IL) had 6 tackles and a forced fumble.

SO DL Issac Barber (Matteson, IL) had the first INT for the Panthers this season.

The Storm were led by JR RB Tyler Hallblade 129 20 carries 1 TD. On defense Crown was led by SR LB Mark Shea who had 8 tackles and 1 TFL.

Next week the Panthers are on the road again as they taken on the MacMuarry Highlanders (0-4, 0-3 UMAC). Kickoff is at 1PM at Freesen Field.
