Panthers Dominate Highlanders, Win 62-7

For the second consecutive week the Panther offensive exploded for over 50 points in their win Saturday. The Greenville College Panthers (2-3, 2-2 UMAC) used a balanced offensive attack to defeat the MacMurray College Highlanders (0-5, 0-4 UMAC) 62-7. Six different Panthers made it to the end zone on Saturday as the offensive gained 694 yards on total offense. The run heavy Panthers gained 455 of those yard on the ground on 62 attempts.

Once again it was SO QB Brendan Chambers (San Clemente, CA) who led the Panthers with 6 total touchdowns. Chambers was 16-20 in the air with a career high 5 passing touchdowns. On the ground Chambers ran the ball 12 times for 110 yards with 1 touchdown.

Chambers wasn't the only Panther with a big game Saturday. SO RB Anthony Moore (Troup, TX) ran the ball for 103 yards on 12 attempts and 1 touchdown. Moore also cought 5 passes for 59 yards and 2 touchdowns.

SR TE Demontrez Simington (Atlanta, GA) caught the ball 3 times for 63 yards and 2 touchdowns. SO RB Immanuel Gamble (St. Louis, MO) carried the ball 13 times for a team high 148 yards and 1 touchdown. FR WR Tre Lewis (Belleville, IL) caught a 42 yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and FR QB Brady Harre (Nashville, IL) scampered for a 20 yard touchdown run late in the fourth.

Offensive coordinator Robbie Schomaker said about the game, "We were very balanced today.That's who we want to be as an offense balanced, explosive and disciplined. Going forward we still have room to improve and we should not be satisfied with the last two weeks performances."

After a slow first quarter the Panthers led the Highlanders 6-0. The second quarter was when Greenville exploded offensively. A 34 point quarter culminated with Lewis's 42 yard touchdown catch with 20 seconds left.

Leading 40-0 at the half a lot of young Panthers were able to gain some valuable experience. 27 different Panthers on defense recorded a tackle. SO LB Cody Lopez (Bonita, CA) led the defense with 5.5 tackles, 1 tackle for loss and his first sack of the season. FR CB Anthony Everett (Chicago, IL) and SO LB Monte Beverley (Fairview Heights, IL) both had 5 tackles for a defense that held the Highlanders to 180 total yards.

For MacMurray their lone score of the day came with only 12 seconds left in the game. After a Panther fumble on a punt return, MacMurray took 8 plays to get into the end zone. QB Cody Hussey led the Highlanders with 87 yards passing. On defense DB Taylor Hosta had 11 total tackles, a forced fumble and fumble recovery.

Next week is homecoming for the Panthers. They will host the Martin Luther College Knights (1-5, 1-4 UMAC). Kickoff is 1PM at Francis Field in Greenville, IL.
