Panthers Maul Cougars in the Dome, Win 59-14

Under the new roof at the Metrodome in Minneapolis the Greenville College Panthers (5-3, 5-2 UMAC) played their best game of the season winning 59-14. Both sides of the ball dominated the over-matched Minnesota-Morris Cougars (4-5, 4-4 UMAC). The offense ran for 425 yards on 71 attempts and 7 touchdowns. The defense only allowed 104 passing yards and mustered 3 sacks.


Greenville got off to a fast start with a defensive stop and a touchdown on the first two possessions of the game. JR RB Bobby Hughley (New York, NY) capped of the 8 play 82 yard drive with a 1 yard run.

After a Minnesota-Morris score the Panthers answered with a pair of SO QB Brendan Chambers (San Clemente, CA) touchdown runs. SO RB Immanuel Gamble (St. Louis, MO) finished off the half with a 8 yard touchdown run. At the half Greenville led 28-14.

The second half is when the potent Greenville wore down the Cougar defense and the Panther defense solidified. Greenville's second possession of the half was a 11 play 72 yard drive that ended with a 1 yard Chambers touchdown run. After three Cougar plays the Panther defense forced a punt. Chambers and the Panther offense took only 6 plays to drive 63 yards. The drive ended with SO RB Bryce Wright's (Peoria, AZ) first touchdown of the season.

Hughley began the fourth quarter with his second touchdown of the day. The next offensive play for the Cougars was fumbled and recovered by SO LB Tyler Penn (Richmond, IN). Greenville took advantage of the turnover when SO K Josh Frewin (Payson, AZ) made a 31 yard field goal.

The final score of the game came when SO DB Marc Sanders (Ewa Beach, HI) grabbed a Cougar fumble and ran it back 56 yards for the score.

The Greenville defense finished the day with 9 tackles for loss, 9 pass breakups, 3 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries and the touchdown. They held Minnesota-Morris to 11-25 passing for 104 yards. On 40 rushing attempt the Cougars could only average 2.9 yards per carry. SR S Andy Lozano (Desert Hot Springs, CA) led the team in tackles with 5. FR LB Jacob Bronars (Lee's Summit, MO) had a big game with 3.5 tackles and one sack for -12 yards.

On offensive it was Chambers who finished with 209 yards rushing on 21 attempts and 3 touchdowns. In addition to his 2 touchdowns, Hughley ran for 97 yards on 20 attempts. SR TE Demontrez Simington (Atlanta, GA) led the team in receptions with 5 for 92 yards.

Next week the Panthers host their final home game of the season as Northwestern College (MN) makes the trip to Greenville, IL. Saturday is Senior Day for the Panthers. Kickoff is set for 1PM CST.
