RECORD Paints Portrait of GC Grads

Published: April 13, 2021

Whether posted to Facebook via mobile upload or carefully mounted in grandma's photo album, family pictures often tell revealing stories of "ties that bind." They capture facial features and physique shared by their members, and the interests and activities they hold in common.

Just released, the President's Report edition of The RECORD, GC Alumni, A Portrait, presents an emerging "family" picture of a different sort - the collective identity of Greenville College graduates. It draws from data gathered last spring through a survey of alumni who graduated between 1940 and 2011. The portrait, still a work in progress, reveals similarities shared by survey respondents, for example: Of the 68% who pursued advanced degrees, 79% said GC prepared them well for their graduate and/or post-graduate work. Of all respondents:

  • 72% said that GC significantly improved their abilities to write and speak well.
  • 77% said that their GC experiences deepened their faith.
  • 79% said that GC significantly improved their critical thinking abilities.
  • 80% said that GC prepared them well for their careers.

The issue also profiles select alumni whose stories illustrate the statistics.

"We pray that, in whatever field our alumni find themselves, they are empowered to join Christ's work in the world," writes Acting President Randy Bergen in introducing the issue. "We want them to live lives characterized by skill and integrity so they carry the name of Christ well." This RECORD offers a glimpse at how Greenville College alumni are carrying out that work.
