WAVERLY, Iowa - The men's track and field team was led by sophomore Andrew Sharp's second place finish in the 800 meter run as the team placed 34th in the NCAA national championships on Saturday.

Sharp earned eight points with his effort to give Greenville their 34th place position of 81 scoring teams.

Sharp qualified for the finals after his 1:50.76 time in Friday's second heat was second. The top two finishers in each of the three heats earned automatic positions in Saturday's final.

On Saturday, Sharp improved to 1:50.10 to place second again. This time, however, he was the nation's second fastest 800 runner.

With Sharp's production, the men's team kept alive a four year run of top 35 place national finishes at the outdoor national championships. Sharp contributed a fourth place national placement in the 800 to the 2015 showing.

Sharp is the only male 800 participant to ever earn an NCAA All-American honor at Greenville College.
