Softball Bested by Dallas and LeTourneau

Published: April 13, 2021

IRVING, Tex. Greenville softball dropped a pair on Tuesday afternoon in Texas as LeTourneau University edged the Black & Orange 8-1 in game one and the University of Dallas slid past 6-0 in game two at Crusader Field.

In game ones battle against LeTourneau (8-7) the Panthers struggled at the plate, notching only two hits off of LUs hurler Kelli Parton. GCs lone run came on an RBI knock in the bottom of the fifth inning from junior Angie Doherty that scored freshman Amy Sheets. LeTourneaus offense posted two runs in the first and four in the second to jump out to a 6-0 lead and eventually serve Greenville the 8-1 defeat.

On the mound for the Panthers, senior Lindsay Schuberth was charged the loss while going 1.2 innings with two earned.

In the nightcap GC faced a talented University of Dallas (8-12) squad who was already 19 games deep into the 2012 season. The Panthers again stumbled offensively, failing to score in the six-inning duel and serving up only five hits. Centerfielder Brya Irvin went 2-for-3 at the dish to lead the Panthers efforts.

Defensively the Panthers stayed alive until the bottom of the fifth, when a three-run flurry from UD stretched the margin to 6-0 heading into the final frame. Senior pitcher Angela Sheets was ticketed the loss in the 6-0 defeat, tossing 5.2 innings with six earned on seven hits and a strikeout.

GC Softball moves to 0-8 in the early season, and will look to rebound in the weeks wrap-up tournament at Evangel University in Missouri on Friday - Saturday.
