Softball picks up pair of wins

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The softball team took two SLIAC victories on Saturday as they defeated Blackburn 5-2 and 8-0 on a day which honored seniors Hannah Burger, Jessica Laubecher, and Amy Sheets.

Greenville's Hannah Burger pitched a complete game in game one as she allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.

The Lady Panthers got two runs in the bottom of the first and single runs in the third and fourth innings as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Blackburn made it a 4-1 game in the top of the fifth, but Greenville got the run back in the bottom of the sixth. The Beavers tacked on a run in the top of the seventh.

Bryn McKie was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two stolen bases.

Tiffany Samsoe was 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Andrea Martin went 3-for-3 with one RBI.

The Lady Panthers got four runs in each of the first two innings of game two as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead and held it to see the game ended by the mercy rule in the fifth inning.

Jessica Laubecher pitched a three-hitter for Greenville in the shutout. She had four strikeouts.

Becca Oldham was 1-for-1 with two runs scored and two RBI.

McKie hit 2-for-2 with two runs scored, and Anaya Tobiason was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Samsoe had a 1-for-1 game with two runs scored and an RBI.

The Lady Panthers (9-4, 2-0 SLIAC) travel to Illinois College on Monday.
