Softball Sweeps Robert Morris Springfield 2-0, 9-7

GREENVILLE, Ill. Greenville Softball (3-10) kicked off the first of a six-game home stand with back-to-back victories over the USCAA defending national champion Robert Morris University -Springfield on Monday. The Lady Panthers edged RMUS 2-0 in the opener, and completed the sweep with a 9-7 victory in the capper.

In game one, GC was led offensively by freshman shortstop Mattie Fairchild who batted two-for-three with an RBI and a homerun. Fairchild, who has been on fire as of late hitting an average of .478 on the year, sealed the victory 2-0 with a sixth inning homer.

Claiming the win for the Lady Panthers on the mound was Lindsay Schuberth who went seven innings for the shutout. Schuberth only surrendered one hit in the contest and struck out seven batters.

The night cap saw the ladies of GC push past Robert Morris with a furry of offensive production in the fourth inning. Greenville shelled the opposition with seven runs to come back from a 4-0 deficit and edge RMUS for 9-7 decision.

Senior Lesley Holloway, who hit three-for-four with a homerun and two RBI, fronted Greenvilles efforts at the plate.

GC ace Schuberth again earned the win, dealing seven innings from the mound and giving up three earned runs on eight hits while striking out four batters.

Greenville Softball will next take the diamond on Thursday, March 31 as they defend Lady Panther Field against SLIAC foe Blackburn in a late-afternoon double header. First pitch for game one is scheduled for a 4:45 pm start with game two getting underway at 6:45 pm.
