Softball wins pair at Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The softball team picked up two wins on Monday night as they took a 10-8 win in eight innings in game one before taking an 11-7 victory in the second game.

Game 1 Recap

The bats were busy in Terre Haute in Monday's first game, and when the dust cleared, the Lady Panthers had a 10-8 win in extra innings.

The teams combined for 26 hits, including seven extra base hits.

The game was back-and-forth heading into the eighth, with six lead changes.

Brianna Anderson got the win in relief for the Panthers. Anderson pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed two runs.

Laney Thacker, Bryn McKie, Andrea Martin and Shannon Elbe helped lead the Lady Panthers. They combined for 11 hits and 10 RBIs.

The bottom of the first saw Rose Hulman take an early 3-0 lead.

Elbe's two-run home run and McKie's two-run double helped the Panthers score four runs in the fourth.

Rose Hulman pushed across two runs in the fourth inning to regain the lead.

Martin and Laney Thacker produced run scoring singles in the fifth to give Greenville the 6-5 advantage.

However, a home run by Rose-Hulman in the bottom of the fifth tied the game at 6-6.

The teams remained scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings, and the game headed to extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, Greenville put two runners on base in front of Martin who produced a fielder's choice to give Greenville a one-run lead. Thacker followed with a three-run homer.

Rose-Hulman added a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth, but Greenville held on for the win.

Game 2 Recap

Cayla Speaks clubbed two home runs to carry the Panthers to an 11-7 win in the second game.

The game was back-and-forth heading into the fifth, with four lead changes.

The top of the first saw the Panthers take a 3-0 early lead. A triple by Tobiason scored McKie to start the inning. The Panthers tacked on more runs when Tobiason scored on a two-run home run by Samsoe.

Rose-Hulman tightened Greenville's lead to 3-1 with a run in the bottom of the first.

The Lady Panthers got the run back in the second inning after an RBI triple by McKie, but Rose-Hulmantook the lead with four runs in the third.

Brianna Anderson tied the game at 5-5 with a solo home run in the fourth.

Martin's RBI double, and Thacker's two-run homer gave Greenville an 8-5 lead in the fifth.

Rose-Hulman tightened the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.

The Panthers tacked on another three runs in the sixth. Speaks homered, plating Shannon Elbe to start the inning. That was followed by Samsoe's single, scoring McKie.

A solo home run was added by Rose Hulman in the seventh.

Brianna Anderson got the win in relief for the Panthers. Anderson pitched five innings and allowed two runs.

The Lady Panthers evened their record at .500 with an 18-18-1 mark heading into their games at Spalding on April 30.
